Today we are at the U.S. Department of Transportation Advisory Committee on Human Trafficking meeting. The investment from the transportation sector in developing a concerted anti-trafficking approach is critical to a thorough and coordinated national response to the ways the various portions of our systems are exploited by human traffickers.

The first step is the development and release of a report to be published this summer, and today was the first hearing on the initial draft sections of the report. For the report drafts, agenda, and committee member information, visit: https://www.transportation.gov/stophumantrafficking/acht

Advocacy

In the Department of Transportation’s report on combating human trafficking in the transportation sector – survivor experiences and perspectives were noticeably absent at the first hearing. So, in the public comment section, Rochelle discussed the need for survivor voices to be included and centered at this early stage, and throughout the report and policy drafting process. She also highlighted the need to bring in varied perspectives from anti-trafficking stakeholders to ensure the report recommendations were nationally representative.

We are excited to see the draft, and ways this sector can help disrupt human trafficking!
