Justice may finally come for the victims of this trafficker. A news-roundup is below, outlining the charges he is facing, the journalist whose relentless coverage brought him down, and the decades worth of his behavior that fits the description of the current, most commonplace pimping coercive and controlling behavior happening in all of our neighborhoods on a daily basis.
Complex trauma and traumatic childhood experiences are vulnerabilities that traffickers deliberately prey upon when identifying and recruiting their victims. Epstein’s predatory behavior is just like every other trafficker – this is just the tip of the iceberg. We work with hundreds of law enforcement, social service, and media agencies just like the Miami Herald to help use data and intelligence analysis to end human trafficking. Let’s work together to catch and stop all the Epsteins!
“Most of the (over 80) girls came from disadvantaged families, single-parent homes or foster care. Some had experienced troubles that belied their ages: They had parents and friends who committed suicide; mothers abused by husbands and boyfriends; fathers who molested and beat them. One girl had watched her stepfather strangle her 8-year-old stepbrother, according to court records obtained by the Herald. Many of the girls were one step away from homelessness.”Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking targets: ‘The more vulnerable the better,’ investigator says. USA Today, July 11, 2019

“The new indictment—which, according to two sources, will be unsealed Monday in Manhattan federal court—will reportedly allege that Epstein sexually exploited dozens of underage girls in a now-familiar scheme: paying them cash for “massages” and then molesting or sexually abusing them in his Upper East Side mansion or his palatial residence in Palm Beach. Several of the billionaire’s employees and associates allegedly recruited the girls for Epstein’s abuse, and some victims eventually became recruiters themselves, according to law enforcement. The girls were as young as 14, and Epstein knew they were underage, according to details of the arrest and indictment shared by two officials.”

We all have a part to play in ending human trafficking. Miami Herald Reporter Julie K. Brown has diligently served her part. Her “Perversion of Justice” series that has consistently and assertively put Epstein’s guilt and misdeeds in the spotlight was an open challenge to the criminal justice system to hold him accountable. Thanks to her that challenge was accepted as he was indicted this week.
When we have the courage to use our voices to demand justice – we are all better for it. Thank you, Julie!!
